Bus mishap injures 25 in Jaffna
Jaffna Special Correspondent
Twenty-five passengers were injured, eight seriously, when a CTB bus
with 150 passengers skidded off the road near Kunju Paranthan Junction
yesterday. The injured are mostly teachers and Government servants.
The injured were admitted to Kilinochchi and Jaffna Teaching
Hospitals.
Lobsters in the wrong hands

Harbour Police, Galle recently arrested two suspects who were in the
possession of 30 lobsters. They were apprehended when bringing the
lobsters in a boat ashore close to the Galle harbour. Police said
permits are needed to catch lobsters. The suspects were to be produced
before the Galle Magistrate.
Meanwhile, Elpitiya Police arrested a person transporting the carcass
of a stag in a lorry.
Nalandasara 2009
The communication unit of the Nalanda College, Colombo will hold its
11th Radio Station “Nalandasara 2009” from FM96.1MHz on Feb. 26 , 27 and
28 from the school premises.
The programs of this FM channel will be available to listeners
through their website www.nalanda.sch.lk.
Japanese Kyogen Dramas
The Japanese Graduates Alumni Association of Sri Lanka and the
Kelaniya University Drama and Theatre and Image Arts Unit in
collaboration with the Japanese Embassy will stage three Japanese (Kyogen)
dramas in Sinhala entitled Suminuri (Tears of a Crocodile) Bushu
(Poison) and Kami Fusen (Paper balloon), at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall,
University of Kelaniya on March 1 at 6.00 p.m.
The three plays are directed by Dr. Patrick Ratnayake, Priyankara
Ratnayake and Tharindu Dodamtenna.
The script has been translated from Japanese to Sinhala by Professor
Ariya Rajakaruna.
Admission is free.
Coaches collide head on, one killed

A private coach driver was killed and 21 passengers injured when two
private coaches collided head on, on the Galle Road, Wadduwa yesterday.
Five critically injured passengers were transferred to the Colombo
General Hospital.
The private coach was proceeding to Colombo from Akuressa while the
other vehicle was bound to Matugama from Colombo.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken into custody.
Prize giving
The annual prize giving of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo will be held
on February 26, Friday at the Sports Complex/Auditorium at 1.30 p.m.
Colombo Archbishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith will be the Chief Guest.
Public meeting
A public meeting and prize distribution organized by the Galle Museum
Cultural organization to commemorate Holy Prophet Muhammed’s (Sal)
birthday celebrations will be held on Saturday, February 27 at
Southlands Balika Vidyalaya Hall Fort, Galle at 3.45 p.m.
Ceremony
A ceremony to mark International Women’s Day organized by the Child
Development and Women’s Empowerment Ministry will be held at the
Singapore Community hall, Siribopura, Hambantota on March 8 at 10 a.m.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa will be
the chief guests.
