Treasury Secretary optimistic:

GSP+ can be revived

To discuss unresolved issues with EU:

 The effects of the suspension of the GSP+ facility by the European Union will not be felt in the next six months. The European Union has indicated its willingness to discuss unresolved issues to which the Government has responded positively, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera told Daily News Business.

Less strikes in private sector now:

Positive labour relations in Lanka

The number of strikes in Sri Lanka’s private sector is less compared to other countries in the region. This is due to the positive labour relations Sri Lanka has at present, Labour Relations and Manpower Ministry Secretary Mahinda Madihahewa said. A tripartite international workshop on freedom of association and collective bargaining was held at the Hilton yesterday.

Knowledge-based professional services marketed directly or through off shore back office operation offer high growth market opportunities. Export Development Board (EDB), Industrial Services and Products Sector Head Chithranjalee Dissanayake told the Daily News Business that overseas, employment of both unskilled and skilled Sri Lankan workers is a major foreign exchange earner at present.
