Emergency passed
The motion to extend the Emergency Regulations by another one month
was passed in Parliament with a majority of 69 votes. The vote was
passed with 93 voting for and 24 against.The TNA, JVP and the UNP voted
against the motion.
More power to national grid

The two wind power stations at Mampuri and Kalpitiya will add 30 MWs
to the national grid within few months.
The Sustainable Energy Authority has planned to increase the
generation of power from alternative energy sources such as biogas,
solar and wind power to 400 MWs within a short period. This project was
implemented on this basis.
The Authority called for applications from Sri Lankans willing to
generate electricity from alternative energy sources and the Authority
has selected 159 viable projects out of 1,000 applications.
JR's Constitution similar to LTTE

Jayewardene has also become a curse to the country during the past three
decades, Foreign Employment Promotion Minister Keheliya Rambukwella
said.
Addressing a UPFA public rally at the Galagedera electorate
yesterday, the Minister said the Government will get rid of the
Jayewardene Constitution after winning a two thirds majority in
Parliament at the General Election.
Death of Daily News staffer's father
The death occurred of retired Principal P.B. Somaratne of
Nildandahinna yesterday. He is the father of Daily News staffer Rasika
Somaratne, Eromi Somaratne of Sri Sumangala National School, Walapone
and Chandima Somaratne of the Agriculture Department, Gannoruwa.
His remains are lying at his residence, Chulapaya, Nildandahinna and
the funeral will be held today at the family burial grounds.
Athlete Roshan's mother dies
The death occurred on Monday of Mrs. Freeda Fernando, mother of
former Royal College athletic captain and present Senior Superintendent
of Police, Gampola, Roshan Fernando and former athletic manager of the
Sri Lanka team Commodore Shemal Fernando of the Navy.
Her funeral will take place today at the Roman Catholic Cemetery,
Kudapaduwa, Negombo at 5 p.m. after a service at St. Mary's Church,
Grand Street, Negombo at 4.30 p.m.
Buddhist Talk
Servants of the Buddha Society Dr. Kosala de Silva will deliver a
Buddhist talk in English, on Aniccha, the Foundation of Buddhism, at a
meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society, Maitri Hall, Lauries
Road, Bambalapitiya, on March 13 at 4.30 p.m.

St. Patrick’s charity ball
St. Patrick’s Charity Ball will be held at the Cinnamon Lakeside
Hotel on March 13 from 7.30 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to
charity. Entertainment will be provided by the Irish Musical Society of
Aer Lingus, from Dublin. St. Patrick’s Day celebrated on March 17 every
