Failed asylum seekers back to Sri Lanka
Four more Sri Lankan asylum seekers, two Tamils, one Sinhalese and
one Muslim, have been removed from Australia after their applications
for refugee status were unsuccessful, a spokesman for the Australian
Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) said yesterday.

World Water
Day
World Water Day celebrations organized by the National Water Supply
and Drainage Board will be held under the patronage of Water Supply and
Drainage minister A.L.M. Athaulla at the Bandaranaike Memorial
International Conference Hall on March 22 at 9 a.m.
Water Supply Minister Mahinda Amaraweera will also attend.

The Water Forum and the Civil Engineering Sectional Committee of the
Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), will commemorate ‘World
Water Day’ by conducting a public lecture on ‘Clean water for a Healthy
World’ at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium of the IESL, 120/15, Wijerama
Mawatha, Colombo 7 on March 22 at 5.15 p.m.
Greater Kandy Water Supply Project Director, Eng. P. H. Sarath Gamini
will make a presentation on the ‘Challenges in the Water Sector’.
Training Camp
A training camp for Daham Pasal teachers in the Kurunegala District
on the preparation to celebrate the 2,600 Buddha Jayanthi Festival will
be held at the Kurunegala Town Hall on March 20.
Awards presentation
The awards presentation to winners of the all island essay contest on
Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS conducted for the 18th consecutive year by the
Lions Clubs International - District 306 A 2 will be held on March 21 at
the Global Towers Hotel, Colombo 6.
Trade exhibition and fair
An Avurudu Udana Co-op city 2010 Trade Exhibition and Fair organised
by the Sri Lanka National Co-operative Board will be held at the
Homagama Madya Maha Vidyalaya grounds from April 1 to 3.
Multi-purpose Co-operatives and all institutions under the purview of
the Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives and Consumer Services
Ministry and several other State and private sector institutions will
participate.
An entrance fee of Rs. 30 will be charged from an adult. Entrance is
free for schoolchildren.
Dhamma Desana
A special Dhamma Desana by Rajakeeya Panditha Ven. Wathuruwila
Sujatha Thera will be held at Sambodhi Nugasramaya at Soysapura in
Moratuwa today at 7.30 p.m.
'Nagamu Puravara' phase I completed
The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has completed the
first phase of the 'Nagamu Puravara' project.
The renovation works of Navagamapura - Orugodawatta, Summitpura -
Mattakkuliya, Mohandiramwatta - Kolpetty, 585 Watta - Baseline Road and
Kirulapura - Kirulapona were completed by the NHDA and handed over to
the community. Under this program 1,492 under-served settlements in the
Colombo City have been identified to be developed. Under phase 1, 354
settlements will be speedily developed.
St. John’s College building opening
The newly-constructed four-storeyed building of St. John’s College,
Nugegoda will be opened on March 27 at 10.30 a.m.
This four-storeyed building which consists of a new office complex,
an auditorium and 12 classrooms has been constructed with Education
Ministry funds.
This event is being organized under the guidance and supervision of
Principal Major G.P.B. Liyangaskumbura.
Technical sessions
Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka
will address the Technical Sessions of the Institute of Supply and
Materials Management on ‘Environment impact, its threat and green
procurement’ at the OPA Auditorium today at 2.00 p.m.
Department of Public Finance General Treasury Additional Director
General (Procurement) Ivan Tissera will deliver the second address on
‘Good governance in relation to public procurement’.
The technical session will be followed by the Annual General Meeting
at the ISMM Auditorium at the OPA Building, Pro. Stanley Wijesundara
Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Ceremony to felicitate women
The Association of Muslim Professional and Entrepreneurs will
commemorate International Women’s Day followed by felicitating
outstanding women achievers in their fields of work and study.
The celebrations will be held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute,
Independence Square, Colombo 7 today from 4.00 p.m.
Disaster preparedness training

The Disaster Management Centre has launched a special training
program to train service personnel in Batticaloa district in protecting
the general public in the event of national disasters such as tsunami
and flood etc.
The first stage of this training program was recently held at the
government rehabilitation centre, Batticaloa under the aegis of
commander of 234 Regiment.
Dhamma school teachers to follow computer courses

Three thousand Dhamma school teachers in the Kurunegala district will
follow free computer courses.
These courses are conducted free under the patronage of the Education
Ministry and the Cultural and National Heritage Ministry.
Steps will be taken to train these teachers to teach Buddhism in
English medium said Kurunegala District Dhamma Schools’ Chief Advisor
Venerable Kadigamuwe Dhammadassi Nayaka Thera.
The Religious Affairs and Moral Upliftment Ministry has allocated Rs.
4.5 million.
