Public help needed to fight crime - IGP

Crime is on the increase and can be completely eradicated only with public and police participation, said Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya. Speaking as chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Biyagama new police station to be built at a cost of Rs. 70 million in Biyagama last week, he said most criminals escaped from the law with public help.

“This is a matter of regret. This can be avoided if the public take a conscious attitude against unlawful elements and assist police to maintain law and order,” the IGP said. IGP Balasuriya said the police have started a program to maintain “ties with law abiding people”.
