Carlton Super Sports Festival’s motor racing event:

Gayan and Pasindu steal the limelight at Tissamaharama

Gayan Sandaruwan was the best performer in the motor cycle events and Pasindu Peiris showed his superiority in the motor car events on the third day of the fifth annual Carlton Super Sports Festival organised by the Tharunyata Hetak Youth Movement and worked off in Tissamaharama yesterday.

Gayan Sandaruwan gave an excellent display to win three events in motor cycling - 250 cc, 2500 cc and open racing events. Pasindu Peiris too came off with flying colours to win three events - SL-GT, SL-H 1600 and SL-H 1600 in the motor cars events.

Amila Kumara of Sri Lanka Navy became the overall winner of Unity cycle tour. His timing for the whole event was 13.36.29 secs.

Sri Lanka Army, President’s Security Division 1, President’s Security Division 2, President’s Security Division 3, Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment, Raddoluwa Udara Sports Club and Sri Lanka Police team participated in the tug-o’war event which was conducted according to the world governing body rules. The event was refereed by Sunimal de Silva (Sub Inspector of President’s Security Division), PC Sanjeewa Opatha (President’s Security Division) and Priyanka Sumanatissa (President’s Security Division).

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was the chief guest and gave away the awards to the winners. The Carlton Super Sports Festival was a tremendous success due to the keen interest taken by Namal Rajapaksa, President of the Tharunyata Hetak youth movement.

Under 10 (50 cc): 1. Duwara Akalanka Senadeera, 2. Hasindu Kosalaka Gunasekara, 3. Shavidu Shenal Nithiksha.

Street trail 250 cc: 1. R.M. Safras, 2. Dinesh Anurudda, 3. Haren Yatawaka.

Under 13 (85 cc): 1. Jacques Gunawardena, 2. Kasun Tharaka Wickramaarachi, 3. Ivan Biaggi Gurusinghe.
