"Though most of my opponents said I would be away from the country
and will live in Colombo forgetting the people of Matara who elected me,
I will remain here and work for the people of Matara," master blaster
Sanath Jayasuriya said after winning the General Election with the
highest number of preferential votes in the district.
"I have come to work for my people and will not betray the trust
President Mahinda Rajapaksa reposed in me. Therefore, I will not forget
the people of my home district and do my utmost for their welfare," he
said.
Wanted O positive kidney
An 18-year-old girl warded at the Colombo National Hospital is in
need of a O positive kidney. Would be donors are requested to contact

Reckless driver granted bail

A lorry driver who had allegedly knocked down a motorcyclist along
the Dambulla-Kekirawa road causing fatal injuries to him by driving in a
reckless manner was apprehended by Dambulla Police.
The suspect driver was produced before the Dambulla Magistrate and
released on bail.
The deceased was identified as Samarasekera Mudiyanselage Ajith
Samarasekera (36). His body is lying at the Dambulla Hospital morgue.
Dambulla Police are investigating.
Body of youth found

The body of a 22-year-old man was found in the Matara Beach park by
Police yesterday.
The body has been identified as that of Dissanayake Mudiyanselage
Dissanayake of Kotiyagala, Ethimale, Moneragala.
Police also found a mobile phone and a purse in the deceased's
trouser pocket. Matara Police are investigating.
Mother suspected of murdering infant

Matale Police arrested a woman suspected of murdering her newborn
infant. The suspect had returned to Sri Lanka recently following a stint
abroad. According to police, she had murdered the infant soon after
birth and buried it.
The woman is a resident of Ukuwelawatte in the Warakamura area. Upon
questioning her, police has obtained a court order to recover the
infant's body. Investigations are continuing.
Pregnant cow slaughtered at abbatoir

A pregnant cow tethered in a homegarden in Baranankattuwa has been
robbed by some unidentified persons on Saturday night. Residents in the
area angered by the robbery raided an illicit slaughter house in the
area the following morning and found the cow slaughtered and the still
born calf buried in a nearby pit.
The slaughtered cow was being skinned for meat when residents raided
the slaughter house. Mundalama Police which was informed arrested the
suspects operating the illicit slaughter house. Investigations are
continuing.
Bus goes down precipice killing one
One person was killed and 12 others injured when a private bus
plunged down a precipice at Sanchimale yesterday.
The incident occurred at around 5.00 p.m. The injured were admitted
to the Dickoya and Nawalapitiya Hospitals.
Buddhist talk
U. Mapa will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English on "The Mind
Development in Buddhism" at a meeting of the Servants of Buddha Society
on Saturday April 17, at 4.30 p.m. at the Maithree Hall, Lauries Road,

The Old boys of Rahula College Matara 95 batch will hold a get
