Sri Lanka's image enhanced at UNESCO
The Permanent Delegation of Sri Lanka to UNESCO in association with
the Embassy of Sri Lanka in France organized the annual Sri Lanka Bazaar
for the fourth consecutive year on June 23.
The event, which was held at the 'Cercle de Delegue' at UNESCO
brought together several Sri Lankan and French nationals, involved in
the promotion of Sri Lankan food, handicrafts and garments among other
gift items.
Geared towards the promotion of Sri Lanka and multiplicity of
attributes the country has to offer, the event has evolved over the
years into a much looked forward to and well attended promotional event.
Authentic Sri Lankan delicacies, traditional sweetmeats and popular
dishes, along with handloom garments, items produced with raw materials
sourced from Sri Lanka and also those manufactured in Sri Lanka, as well
as handicrafts were some of the items available.
The occasion, which coincided with the Third Session of the General
Assembly of the State Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of
the Intangible Cultural Heritage provided an opportunity to enhance the
image of Sri Lanka in the multilateral arena through the diversity
present both within UNESCO itself and also through the many participants
attending the session from the States Parties and Observer States.
A large number of Ambassadors, diplomatic officials, Sri Lankans
working at UNESCO, members of the Sri Lankan community and well-wishers
attended the event.
