Brown bears divide Bulgarian locals, authorities
“The bear ate Kolyo, now it’s our turn because
nobody wants to do anything,” fumed Sasho Kolev, 80, after the
recent killing of a man in the remote Bulgarian village of Kutela by
a protected brown bear. “They love bears, these city people, they
don’t care about us villagers,” he added, complaining about local
authorities and environmentalists who would not allow a cull of the
bear population.

Funding crisis darkens AIDS forum
A world forum on AIDS opened in Vienna Sunday to
warnings led by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that the 29-year
war against the disease was at threat from funding cuts. Launching
the six-day 18th International AIDS Conference, the UN chief said in
a video message that hard-won advances could all be for naught if
countries softened their line.

Atleast 20 missing :
China landslide as rains continue
At least 20 people were missing Monday after a
rain-triggered landslide buried parts of a north China village,
while rising waters threatened to overrun numerous lakes and rivers
including the Yangtze.
