Road closed for Perahera
The road from Kaduwela Junction to Kotelawala Rajasinghe Mawatha
Junction will be closed from 9.00 p.m today to midnight on account of
the Kotelawala Sanghapitthi Viharya Esala Perahera, Police Headquarters
said in a press release yesterday.
The other roads in the vicinity of the temple will be open for one
way traffic during these hours the release said.
Kidney patient seeks help
A. S. M. Thakleen, 45 of No. 2/5 Alokapura, Hambantota is suffering
from end stage kidney failure.
Consultant Nephrologist Dr. A. L. M. Nazar who is treating him has
recommended a kidney transplant to save his life.
Although the surgery will be done free of charge, he says he has to
find nearly Rs 200,000 to cover expresses involved for anti-rejection
therapy custodial solution and investigations. He requests
philanthropists and the public to assist his cause by sending financial
contributions to help him meet these expenses.

at the Hatton National Bank, Hambantota branch. He also requests a donor
wishing to donate a 'O' positive kidney to contact him on 077-9895991 or

President to open school's science lab
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will open the new science laboratory of
Henry Ariyarathna Vidyalaya, Narawelpita, Hakmana built with funds
donated by the founder chairman, Messers L H Piyasena and Sons Co. (Pvt)
Ltd., L H Piyasena on Monday July 26.
The science laboratory is housed in a three-storey building and is
fully equipped. The entire cost of the lab was borne by L H Piyasena,
philanthropist from the locality.
Book launch
Pol Karmantaye Abhiyoga Jayaganimu (Let us overcome challenges in the
coconut industry), a book written by D T U Purasinghe will be launched
at the Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH) on Monday, July 26 at 3 p.m.
Purasinghe is the Coconut Development Authority former Chairman
(2005-2009). At present he is Ceylon Fisheries Corporation
Vice-Chairman.

The 10th Annual General Meeting of Hikkaduwa Sri Sumangala Madya
Vidyalaya Old Boys' Association Colombo group will be held at the
Sobasee reception hall 592, Kotte Road, Bangalawa Junction today at
10.30 a.m.
Prof. Ubeysiri de Silva will be the Chief Guest.
This will be followed by a get together and a luncheon.

Barath program
Al Masjidul Badriyeen, Nawala Jumma Mosque, Rajagiriya has made
special arrangements to conduct Barath Night on July 26 after Nahrib
prayers. Yaseen and Dhuwa will be recited by Mowlavi M N M Fardy (Al-Husani
and Aroosi).This will be followed by a talk on the significant of Barath
Night by Mowlavi A B M Mubarak.
PTOU not in work- to-rule
The main trade union of the Postal Department is not taking part in
the work-to -rule trade union action by some employees of the Central
Mail Exchange, the Postal Ministry said in a press release yesterday.
Post and Telecommunication Officers Union (PTOU) has informed the
Post Master General that the union has not made a decision to
participate in the work-to-rule action.
Discussion
The All Ceylon Young Men's Muslim Association Conference will
organize a discussion with New York University Islamic Centre Director
and Chaplain Imam Khalid Latif at the YMMA Headquarters Sri Vajiragnana
Mawatha Colombo 9 on July 26 at 12 noon.
Sri Sangharaja Thera commemoration
Ven. Welivita Asarana Sarana Saranankara Sangharaja Thera, the
pioneer of the present Buddhist revival of the country will be
commemorated on Esala Poya Day (25) at a meeting to be held at Malwatte
Maha Viharaya at 1.30 pm presided by Ven Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha
Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thera of the Malwatte Chapter.
A commemorative perahera will follow starting from Malwatte Maha
Viharaya parading the streets of Kandy.
Memorial lecture
Ash A. Agar will deliver Beruwala Jamiya Naleemiya campus and Iqra
Technical Training Institute Founder Naleem Hajiyar Memorial at the
Postal Head Quarters Auditorium, D. R. Wijewardena Mawatha, Colombo 10
today at 4.00 p.m. The lecture will be presided by Dr. M. A. M. Shukri.
