Professor Ruchira Kumaratunga of the Biological Faculty said
experiments conducted by the Ruhuna University in regard to the
cultivation of artificial coral in the sea is highly successful. She
said coral reefs which are necessary for fish breading have been
destroyed due to human acts and they are not available everywhere in the
sea.
Due to the success of the experiment coral can be grown in such areas
too. Professor Terney Pradeep and a team carrying out experiments have
discovered that artificial coral can be cultivated on wall tiles by
fixing parts of dead coral and living coral together using cement
mixture and laying them near coral reefs, the professor said. |
