Errant behaviour brings death

A member of the Kawadi dancing group that came to participate in the Devinuwara Sri Vishnu Devalaya perahera died due to injuries caused by an elephant attack on Saturday (24). According to Gandara police after the end of the Devala perahera, elephants that participated in the perahera had been resting in the devala premises.

At that time, members of the Kawadi dancing group were practising for the Randoli perahera due on July 25. One member of the group had worn a mask and made fun of the tired elephant.

The angered elephant had attacked the youth.

The deceased is identified as P. M. Tharindu, a 16 year old youth of Welegoda, Devinuwara.
