Pension for self-employed
Persons between 19-59 can be enrolled as members:
The Sri Lanka Social Security Board has launched a program to provide
a pension with State backing to persons engaged in self-employment,
Board Chairman Nimal Amarasinghe said in a press release yesterday.
The Social Security Board incorporated for providing pensionable
benefits to persons engaged in self-employment has taken measures to
enrol about 370,000 self-employed persons as members of the scheme to
grant pension benefits. Such persons between the ages of 19-59 other
than those who are engaged in agriculture and fisheries industries and
who are not entitled to a Government pension can be enrolled as members
to get a pension.
At present 6,525 persons engaged in self-employment ventures are paid
a pension and the Board spends Rs 3.2 million monthly, the Chairman
said. |
