Persons between 19-59 can be enrolled as members:

The Sri Lanka Social Security Board has launched a program to provide a pension with State backing to persons engaged in self-employment, Board Chairman Nimal Amarasinghe said in a press release yesterday.

The Social Security Board incorporated for providing pensionable benefits to persons engaged in self-employment has taken measures to enrol about 370,000 self-employed persons as members of the scheme to grant pension benefits. Such persons between the ages of 19-59 other than those who are engaged in agriculture and fisheries industries and who are not entitled to a Government pension can be enrolled as members to get a pension.

At present 6,525 persons engaged in self-employment ventures are paid a pension and the Board spends Rs 3.2 million monthly, the Chairman said.
