Kandy gets Rs 300 m for road rehabilitation
The Upcountry Road Development Authority under the purview of the
Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs 300 million to construct
and rehabilitate rural roads within 310 grama niladhari divisions in the
Kandy district.
The areas covered by the road development program are Galagedara,
Hatharaliyadda, Harispattuwa, Poojapitiya and Akurana. Economic
Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has accorded top priority to
develop rural roads in difficult areas to help the transport of goods
produced by the villagers and for other purposes of transport, a
ministry spokesman told the Daily News.
In the Hatharaliyadda division 37 rural roads are to be paved with
concrete at a cost of Rs 46.95 million, 58 rural roads in Galagedara
Division at a cost of Rs 55.19 million and 83 rural roads in
Harispattuwa Division at a cost of Rs 57.19 million.
In the Poojapitiya division 57 rural roads will also be paved with
concrete at a cost of Rs 28.83 million, he said.
The total length of roads to be developed in the Kandy District under
this program is 60 kilometres. |
