Over 7,500 participate in Colombo dengue fight

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has accelerated its dengue
eradication programs in the Colombo city with the participation of 7,500
volunteers - school teachers, children and parents in Borella, Colombo
East and the West.
CMC Special Commissioner Omar Kamil said the CMC has successfully
carried out dengue mosquito breeding prevention program stage II in
association with the Colombo Rotary Club and Glaxo Smith during the
weekend.
Around 2,500 volunteers and CMC employees cleaned Borella and Colombo
East and West Saturday. “Schoolchildren, teachers and parents were made
awareness about dengue mosquito breeding,” he added.
Kamil told the Daily News that volunteers and CMC employees inspected
most areas and found out dengue mosquito vulnerable areas. People were
warned on the danger of dengue and urged to take precautions, he said.
Kamil said another 5,000 volunteers - police, STF and CMC employees
cleaned Dehiwela yesterday as part of dengue mosquito eradication
program.
This program was organized by the CMC in association with the
Dhanasiri Amaratunga Foundation.
Kamil noted that areas identified as most dangerous and prone to
dengue mosquito breedings were fogged and sprayed. CMC Engineering
Department also cleaned drainages in the area. |
