Chairman’s surprise visit reveals irregularities

Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka paid a surprise visit to several foreign employment agencies in the Maradana, Fort, Peoples’ Park areas and found many irregularities, said a press release issued by the Bureau yesterday.

Among the irregularities discovered are illegal recruitment displaying cancelled licences, maintaining two agencies using the same licence, agencies without proper name boards and those not adhering to the minimum legal guidelines stipulated by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.

During his visit the Chairman was able to hand over the passport to a Computer teacher whom an agency wanted to send as a domestic employee without her consent. The objective of the Chairman’s visit was to find out the actual conditions of the agencies as a prelude to introduce a system of rating for them.
