Hambantota Harbour water filling on Aug 15

The initial water filling of Hambantota Harbour will take place on August 15 at 10 am under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The first commercial ship is scheduled to arrive at the Hambantota harbour by November this year. The Hambantota Harbour could be considered as the second largest harbour in the country. It has been constructed at a total cost of US$ 440 million.

The first stage of the project was funded by the Government of China.
