Sports Minister C. B. Ratnayake believes that the new National Institute of Sports Science of the Sports Ministry will be a tremendous boost for the promising athletes who thrive for success in the upcoming international meets.

The Minister made these observations after having declared open the new National Institute of Sports Science of the Sports Ministry in Torrington Avenue Colombo yesterday.

He noted that Sri Lanka’s quest for a medal at the 2016 Olympic Games should begin right now and the National Institute of Sports Science could play a major role in making this dream become a reality.

The Minister highly commended the performances of the Sri Lankan contingent which is currently participating in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. He stated that the Sri Lankan team is vying for honours among top competitors from 204 countries and yet they have made a significant impact in the events that have been worked off. Minister Ratnayake also urged all young athletes to fully utilize the technology and the facilities that are available at the National Institute of Sports Science which has been reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 69 million.

The National Institute of Sports Science centre is fully equipped with an indoor stadium, conference rooms, library, women’s hostel, computer unit, examination hall, observation centre, human resources centre and a store room. C.D
