Institute of Sports Science a boost for athletes - Sports

Sports Minister C. B. Ratnayake believes that the new National
Institute of Sports Science of the Sports Ministry will be a tremendous
boost for the promising athletes who thrive for success in the upcoming
international meets.
The Minister made these observations after having declared open the
new National Institute of Sports Science of the Sports Ministry in
Torrington Avenue Colombo yesterday.
He noted that Sri Lanka’s quest for a medal at the 2016 Olympic Games
should begin right now and the National Institute of Sports Science
could play a major role in making this dream become a reality.
The Minister highly commended the performances of the Sri Lankan
contingent which is currently participating in the inaugural Youth
Olympic Games in Singapore. He stated that the Sri Lankan team is vying
for honours among top competitors from 204 countries and yet they have
made a significant impact in the events that have been worked off.
Minister Ratnayake also urged all young athletes to fully utilize the
technology and the facilities that are available at the National
Institute of Sports Science which has been reconstructed at a cost of Rs.
69 million.
The National Institute of Sports Science centre is fully equipped
with an indoor stadium, conference rooms, library, women’s hostel,
computer unit, examination hall, observation centre, human resources
centre and a store room. C.D
