Sri Lanka Railways General Manager PP Wijesekara has been interdicted
for misappropriating Rs 8.8 million from the Railway Department,
Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said.
Addressing a media-briefing in Colombo yesterday, he said the Cabinet
which met Thursday instructed him to suspend the PP Wijesekara's
services until the case at the Colombo Magistrate Court filed by the
Bribery Commission on charges of misappropriating public funds was over.
He is alleged to have imported a consignment of spare parts of Axle
Boxes for train engines when what was actually required were spare parts
of Axle Boxes for railway carriages.
"The Bribery Commission had investigated the allegation and filed a
Court case against him," the Minister said.
"He will be reappointed to the post if found innocent of all
charges," the Minister said. |
