Rs 340 m for model community administrative villages

The Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs. 340 million to set up model community administrative villages in the Kurunegala district this year.

Shantha Bandara, Kurunegala District M P said selected villages will be developed taking the decisions of residents of those villages into consideration and Economic Development Ministry has already made arrangements to set up public associations and companies for this in the Kuruengala district.

Cottage industries using resources of those particular areas would be promoted thus providing self-employment opportunities to nearly 25,000 unemployed youths in the Kuruengala district.

Each selected village will be provided with Rs. Four million and farmers’ representatives and industrialists in the Kurunegala district will be summoned to discuss ways and means of developing the district, Shantha Bandara said. Under this program products for exporting would be encouraged to be manufactured in next two years, he added.
