Udawalawa to produce more power

The production capacity of the Udawalawa power station is to be enhanced by the CEB to enable it to contribute more electricity to the National Grid than the present two megawatts contributed by it.

This follows a directive issued by Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka to Ministry officials following an inspection tour of the facility recently.

A Ministry release said that the Minister found two generation which can add six megawatts of power at the station of which one was lying idle. The Minister directed officials to deploy the idle generator as well to the generation process after servicing it.

Minister Ranawaka said at a time when attentions is drawn towards new methods of low cost electric generation to avoid a possible power crisis his objective was to provide a quality and efficient electricity service to consumers.

A new vision has been introduced by him to the Ministry to achieve this target.

The 'Vidulamu Lanka' program introduced by him had enabled the CEB to provide 85 percent of the country's electricity needs. His objective was to increase to 100 percent by 2012.
