Govt has taken all steps to resettle Muslims - Minister
The Government has taken all steps for the resettlement of Muslim
people displaced due to the war, Justice Minister Athauda Senevirathne
said,
The Minister expressed this when he met Libyan Ambassador Hateem M.A.
Maksumi in Sri Lanka the Justice Ministry recently.
The Minister said a large number of Muslims were displaced due to the
war. The Government settled them in Puttalam and provided the facilities
to them.
He pointed out that in particular, the resettlement of Muslims
displaced in the Mannar District has reached the final stage, and said
that Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa leads such
activities. He said that the law and order were not maintained properly
in the North during the period of terrorism and that the establishment
of courts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces has been commenced.
The Minister stated that steps have been taken to establish three
courts i.e., a Magistrate's Court, a District Court, a High Court in
Mannar where a large number of Muslim are living.
The Minister stated that Sri Lanka always expects the Libyan support
to rebuild the nation after the war. The Libyan Ambassador stated that
existing job opportunities for the Lankans in Libya will be further
expanded.
The Ambassador stated that the Libyan people were made aware of the
peaceful environment prevailing in Sri Lanka and he expected that Libyan
investors will be looking forward for investment opportunities in Sri
Lanka in future. |
