Ten Int’l universities to be set up

Ten International Universities are to be set up as an initial step. The government is helping the Ministry with the ground work, said Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake at the Vavuniya campus.

He said this attempt is not to tarnish the free education system but to strengthen it. Though the JVP has protest against International Universities there are 78 private institutions at present which offer degrees.

Why don’t they protest against them. That’s because, one JVP Parliamentarian is the owner of such an institute, he said. The Higher Education Ministry has agreed to grant scholarships to 20 percent of the students with financial difficulties to these International Universities.
