Mozambique under curfew

Mozambique: Mozambique President Armando Guebusa urged calm after thousands of nationals protested the price hikes and clashes with the Police and the military left seven dead, 288 wounded and over 100 arrests.

The President convened an emergency meeting with the Council of Ministers and an ad hoc crisis group made up of the ministers of transportation and communications, energy, women’s affairs and social action.

The protests were in response to soaring staple product prices which government spokesman Albero Nkutumula called “irreversible”.

He added that the damages were estimated at $3.34 million. Maputo, Prensa Latina
