Mozambique under curfew
Mozambique: Mozambique President Armando Guebusa urged calm after
thousands of nationals protested the price hikes and clashes with the
Police and the military left seven dead, 288 wounded and over 100
arrests.
The President convened an emergency meeting with the Council of
Ministers and an ad hoc crisis group made up of the ministers of
transportation and communications, energy, women’s affairs and social
action.
The protests were in response to soaring staple product prices which
government spokesman Albero Nkutumula called “irreversible”.
He added that the damages were estimated at $3.34 million. Maputo,
