Agriculture cornerstone of development

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that Agriculture is the cornerstone of economic development in Sri Lanka. Minister Rajapaksa was participating at the Jathika Govi Satiya and exhibition held at the Chamal Rajapaksa Agro Technological and Tourism Park yesterday. ”Without Agriculture this country cannot even being to envision development. Our war heroes have done their country proud, now we have nothing to fear because Sri Lanka is a peaceful country.”

The Minister pointed out that there are countries in the world who export food while their people starve. Rajapaksa stated that it is part of Mahinda Chinthanaya that hunger and starvation in Sri Lanka will be a thing of the past.

”President Mahinda Rajapaksa wants the farmers to get a good deal out of farming and a reasonable price for their harvest” said Minister Rajapaksa. Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene laid the foundation to a new lake in the park. This lake will be used to cultivate 50 acres of paddy.

Yesterday was the last day of this exhibition. More than 15,000 people visited it yesterday.
