Thwarting foreign interference:
Economic power needed
Dharma Sri Abeyratne
Though Sri Lanka received independence on February 04, 1948 several
foreign countries and financial institutions impose conditions on us
since we are not financially independent, said Small and Medium
Enterprise Development Support Unit Chief Coordinator and Senior
Lecturer of Sri Jayewardenepura University Shaman Udayanga.
The senior lecturer addressing the media recently regarding the
'Entrepreneur Day 2010' program said the country has to obtain certain
power economically to mitigate international involvements. As a result
of this situation the World Bank decides whether farmers have to be
given fertiliser subsidy. "Several countries tried to get involved in
humanitarian missions to eradicate LTTE terrorism. They tried to dictate
how to do so.
As an independent country Sri Lanka has to reach a better grading
economically. To achieve this more enterprises, business entities have
to be formed. Therefore, 'Entrepreneur DAY 2010' trade and educational
exhibition will be held on September 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
daily at the Sri Jayewardenepura University to assist blooming
entrepreneurs to come to national and international levels," the Chief
Coordinator added. The event will be held under the theme 'no dream is
impossible to achieve' with a view to expose Sri Lanka's pride and glory
to the world.
Entrepreneur Day 2010 is organised by the Small and Medium Enterprise
Development Support Unit (SMEDSU) of the Faculty of Management Studies
and Commerce (FMSC) in collaboration with the Chamber of Small and
Medium Enterprises (COSME) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
