One-armed school van driver nabbed

A man with an amputated hand who worked as a driver of a van
transporting schoolchildren was released on personal bail of Rs 100,000.
His driving license was also suspended by the Aluthkade magistrate when
he was produced in court. The man was arrested by Cinnamon Gardens
Police on Tuesday.
The Police checked the vehicle at Flower Road, Colombo 7 and found
that the driver’s hand had been amputated below the elbow. The van was
transporting students from Kotugoda, Ekala to Colombo.
The Police also said that parents and their children had been fully
aware that the man was driving the vehicle with this handicap.
The Police Public Relations Unit urged the public that it is their
duty to inform about such situations to the Police to prevent accidents.
