One-armed school van driver nabbed

A man with an amputated hand who worked as a driver of a van transporting schoolchildren was released on personal bail of Rs 100,000. His driving license was also suspended by the Aluthkade magistrate when he was produced in court. The man was arrested by Cinnamon Gardens Police on Tuesday.

The Police checked the vehicle at Flower Road, Colombo 7 and found that the driver’s hand had been amputated below the elbow. The van was transporting students from Kotugoda, Ekala to Colombo.

The Police also said that parents and their children had been fully aware that the man was driving the vehicle with this handicap.

The Police Public Relations Unit urged the public that it is their duty to inform about such situations to the Police to prevent accidents.
