Permits of six bunkering firms to be cancelled

The Petroleum Industries Ministry has drawn attention towards cancelling the permits of six bunkering firms which have failed to provide bunkering facilities to ships in the recent past.

A press release by the Petroleum Industries Ministry said that the ministry had issued permits to 10 firms prior to April 21, 2010 for providing bunkering facilities to ships but only 4 of them had performed that service properly in recent times.

Meanwhile the ministry has already held discussions with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority on the possibility of resuming bunkering facilities to shipping firms for which the CPC lost this business in 2008.
