Mahindodaya technical labs, a boon to schools – WDJ

The government's decision to develop selected 1,000 schools up to secondary level will help students to experience the same educational facilities in schools in urban and rural areas, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said.

The government is planning social development via education and introduce an employment based education system in the country. Accordingly, 1,000 schools islandwide will be developed up to secondary level with all facilities including Mahindodaya technical laboratories, he said.

A large numbers of village level schools were to be closed due to the lack of facilities. Mahindodaya technical laboratories will be a boon to these schools. The laboratories will be established islandwide under the supervision of the Education Ministry, the minister said. He said during the past, some important educational facilities were limited to only a few famous schools in the urban areas.

“It has changed and the government has taken measures to provide physical resources and educated teachers for schools in rural areas to create a well educated and intelligent generation,” the minister said. Minister Seneviratne was addressing the foundation laying ceremony for a Mahindodaya technical laboratory for Malwala Maha Vidyalaya, Ratnapura. The government has provided Rs 8 million.

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Education Minister Bhanu Manupriya, Provincial Council Member Prabhath Mahesh de Alwis, Ratnapura Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Bandula S. Karawita and guests were present.
