Palitha Fernando’s request for overseas trip turned down

The Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday rejected the request by Retired Major General Palitha Fernando to travel overseas.

Retired Major General Fernando has been charged with causing Rs. 11. 4 billion unlawful loss to the government by permitting the Avant Garde Maritime Services Limited to operate floating armoury.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed a corruption case against eight persons, including former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Retired Major General Palith Fernando and three former Navy Commanders for allegedly causing Rs.11.4 billion unlawful loss to the government by permitting the Avant-Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd to operate a floating armory.

The Colombo Magistrate while rejecting the requested observed that court is unaware of the reason for travelling abroad. The Magistrate noted that he had not received documents relating to his purported overseas trip.
