Common Opposition’s aim is to destroy SLFP: Arjuna

The so called Common Opposition is a movement formulated with the sole intention of destroying the SLFP, Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said.

He said that since former Minister Basil Rajapaksa has taken the leadership of this movement, his brother Prasanna Ranatunga should try to understand whether he should continue as a member of the Common Opposition or leave it after assessing the past record of Basil Rajapaksa.

Ranatunga expressed these sentiments when he addressed the media after calling on the Most Ven. Warakagoda Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter at the Asgiriya Viharaya in Kandy and received his blessings yesterday.

Ranatunga recalled that his father always dedicated himself to protect the SLFP even by sacrificing the positions held by him.

The minister said although his brother Prasanna Ranatunga ought to follow in the footsteps of their father, he was now assisting the efforts to break up the SLFP. Ranatunga said he always placed the country before party and worked hard in conformity with the party leadership.
