Sudheera’s all-round effort secures Devapathiraja victory

Devapathiraja National School, Rathgama and St.Anne’s College, Kurunegala collected first innings points in the opening fixtures of U15 Division One Tournament 2016 over Amarasooriya College Meepawala and Kingswood College Kandy respectively. Both matches played on Monday ended in draws.

Sudheera Weeraratne playing a captain’s role ensured Devapathiraja victory with match figures of 87 with the bat and 5 wickets with the ball. Meanwhile Kavindu Ranasinghe who took a match-bag of 9 wickets and Demitha Kumarage scored an unbeaten 67 did well for St. Anne’s not only to gain first innings advantage but also to guide their school closer to an outright victory with time permitting.

This U15 Division 1 tournament with 81 teams in participation which is conducted by SLSCA in association with Singer Sri Lanka PLC according to a new format commenced on 23rd May 2016. St. Thomas’ College, Mt.Lavinia won this championship last year whilst St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa became runners-up.

De La Salle College, Last year’s joint champions and Vidyaloka College Galle, semi-finalists of Division 11 who both played in Division 11 category last year promoted to Division 1 this year.

Devapathiraja Rathgama collected first-innings points over Amarasooriya Meepawala at Rathgama.

Devapathiraja: 145 in 36.3 overs (Sudheera Weerarathne 36, Lakshan Thilina Kumara 19, Chamika Sandaruwan 16, Lahiru Sandaruwan 15, Lahiru Priyankara 14 n.o., Theekshana Dilshan 3/19, Malith Madhushan 3/32, Sithum Kavinda 2/41) and 71/1 in 13.2 overs (Sudheera Weerarathne 51 n.o., Sahan Madhusanka 11 n.o.)

Amarasooriya: 79 in 35.4 overs (Malith Madhushan 29, Sithum Kavinda 23, Sudheera Weerarathne 5/18, Naveen Lakshan 3/04)
