Party Treats, a company producing and selling cakes for the local and overseas markets received the HACCP and quality standards certification ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management from Indexpo recently.

Being the only company in Sri Lanka supplying only three varieties of cakes to Sri Lankan and overseas markets to receive HACCP and quality standards certification ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management , Daily News Business spoke with the husband and wife team behind Party Treats, Managing Partners Gamini Marambe and Sandhya Marambe.
“From a very early age, even during my school days at Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, I had a great liking for cake making. Once I left school, I studied under renowned Cookery Instructress Genevieve White and some others and perfected my techniques. I also had, and still have, a passion for neatness. Then, almost by accident I found out that there is a big demand for my cakes both in Sri Lanka and overseas and I started making cakes for sale in a small way. I have been doing this from the year 1983 on and off, taking time off to look after the needs of my children. Presently my husband is retired from all his professional work and helping me to manage Party Treats as my other Managing Partner,” said Sandhya Marambe.

Asked about the secret behind the demand for her cakes, Sandhya Marambe said, “It has got everything to do with our superior quality ingredients and stringent attention to quality. If the ingredients are not fresh and are not of the required quality, the resulting cake will also be low on quality. We buy all our cake ingredients from one place with a reputation for quality. We make only three kinds of cake – Rich Cake, Love Cake and Wedding Cake. The demand for Rich Cake, also called Christmas cake, is seasonal. Even some of the leading hamper makers in Colombo are our clients. Our delicious range includes 450gm and 1 Kg Christmas Cakes to suit our clients’ needs.”
Managing Partner Gamini Marambe needs no introduction for the Sri Lankan business community. A big name in the packaging industry, Marambe is at present retired from all his professional duties and made running Party Treats his life work. He said, “Unmatched Quality with Excellent Packaging” is the motto of Party Treats. We are, at present, employing 15 permanent staff and my wife personally supervises cake making. Making Love Cake and Wedding Cake is a painstaking and exacting process where they have to be stored under the correct temperatures and humidity.”
“We started this business in 1986 supplying only the seasonal demand mainly during the Christmas Season. Then, the demand got bigger and the consumers were asking for really large quantities. On and off my wife used to accept some orders for Wedding Cake. After I retired after serving for over 30 years in the packaging industry, we registered a company in 2011 as a partnership business, built up a bakery section and we are concentrating on Rich Cake and Love Cake only. Our products are attractively packaged and are in great demand in Sri Lanka and overseas. People living abroad sometimes visit us and take delivery of their orders personally and take them abroad or we send them their orders through courier. We are offering attractive discounts for hamper orders. At Party Treats, our watchword is quality,” Marambe said, in conclusion.
