National anti-corruption summit on December 9

 Minister Sagala Ratnayake

National Anti-Corruption Summit is to be held on December 9 under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, Law & Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayake said at a conference on quality news reporting on bribery and corruption cases, held at the Department of Government Information, yesterday.

“President Maithripala Sirisena participated in the International Anti-Corruption Summit 2016 held in London quite recently. Sri Lanka has received much appraisal for the work done by the government in fighting bribery and corruption at this summit and the President requested that a similar summit to be held in Sri Lanka as well.

The responsibility of holding this National Anti-corruption Summit 2016 is on the Ministry of Law & Order and Southern Development. Number of government officials along with the best possible resource persons would participate in this conference. Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) former Director General Dilrukshi Wickramasinghe contributed much to organise this summit.

Later on, preparation to the new office included transfer of seamless responsibilities.Today's conference on quality reporting on bribery and corruption can be viewed as an initial preparation for this National Anti-Corruption Summit as well," the minister said. “The end-result of this summit should be productive. This should not be another conference where we all go home after applauding at the end.

The summit should make effective decisions and come up with an effective plan for the anti-corruption programme in Sri Lanka.

The public should also be educated about the outcome of this conference. The media has much to contribute in this regard,” minister said.
