The first public rally of the newly formed Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will be held in Nugegoda on January 27 with the participation of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The rally will be attended by the Joint Opposition group members and several other political parties, a member of the SLPP said.
The rally will commence at 3 p.m.
The rally will highlight the rising cost of living, sale of state assets, delaying the provincial council elections , fraud and corruption ,under the present government, the SLPP member said.
Former President Rajapaksa has not officially joined the new party. The party was formed on November 2 under the leadership of Prof. G.L. Peiris. Former Minister Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa too joined later.
