Karuna forms ‘Tamil United Freedom Party’ in Batticaloa

 

Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan also known as ‘Karuna Amman’ formed a new political party – the ‘Tamil United Freedom Party’ in Batticaloa yesterday.

The party – which is not yet registered, will be registered soon, the former Deputy Minister said. The ‘Tamil United Freedom Party’ will be based in Batticaloa, but will open braches in the North and East, he said.

President of the Batticaloa District Civil Organization T. Wimaladas has been appointed General Secretary of the ‘Tamil United Freedom Party’, former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan revealed.

Muralitharan was a former militant with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), but broke away in 2004 to form the breakaway faction the ‘Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP)’.

He entered politics through the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) under former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2008, and later joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), in 2009.
