Woman dies, daughter critical in train accident

A 45-year-old woman died and her nine-year-old daughter injured when they were knocked down by a Kandy bound train at Pilimathalawa on Saturday.

The mother and daughter were trying to cross the railway line close to the station at Pilimatalawa town when they were knocked down by the train plying from Colombo to Kandy at 11.45 a.m.

The two were returning from the Pilimatalawa Pola after buying vegetables and household needs.

The deceased has been identified as Rohini Priyanthi, a resident of Kotaligoda, Menikdiwela.

The girl is a student of Menikdiwela School.

The girl has been admitted to the Kandy General Hospital and is lying in the Intensive Care Unit in a critical state.
