Excise officials seize 1,000 litres of illegal liquor from Ja-ela

Gampaha Excise Department on Friday, seized 1,000 litres of illicit liquor in a raid carried out under the supervision of Gampaha Excise Department Superintendent A. A. Ajith Upul Kumara.

Ja-ela Excise Department OIC Jayasinghe led the operation. Excise Department sources said two suspects were arrested from Ja-ela and 1,000 litres of illegal liquor, both foreign and local, were recovered from their possession.

They were produced before Gampaha Magistrate yesterday and fined Rs. 200,000, said Superintendent Upul Kumara.

“It is supposed to be the biggest bust of illegal liquor carried out by us within the year. We will continue crackdowns on illegal liquor outfits and sales in Gampaha as a priority,” he said.
