Bring on the Mojo!

The US Embassy in Colombo presented the Mo’ Mojo Mardi Gras Music Festival at Park Street Mews recently. US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap and Deputy Chief of Mission Robert Hilton attended the concert.

Mo’ Mojo is a Zydeco-based ‘Party-Gras’ band with their musical roots evolving from southwest Louisiana by French Creole speakers. Their music comprises blends blues, rhythm and blues, and music indigenous to the Louisiana Creoles and the Natives of Louisiana. The hard driving and high energy band’s female fronted group features three-part harmonies, accordion, fiddle, guitar, rubboard, sax, trumpet, harp, bass, percussion, and drums. Their songs are sung in English and French.

Mo’ Mojo takes Zydeco music and infuses it with Americana, Cajun, reggae, rock & roll, funk, R&B, and African and Latin rhythms.

Mo’ Mojo is planning to hold several workshops and performances in both Colombo and Jaffna. Here are some highlights of the Mo’ Mojo Mardi Gras.
