Katana Cyclo Cross 2017 at Pope Paul the 6th MV on Saturday

The Pope Paul the Sixth, gift to the nation a mix school in 12 acre block of natural landscape will be of hype of activity during this week end. The first Mountain Biking Cyclo Cross will take place under the guidance of National Mountain Biking Association.

The Parents Union of the Pope Paul the 6th M.V. ably supported by the principal Rev. Fr. D. A.A. Perera has given recognition that mountain biking is a sport which can inculcate vigor and will power amongst the young students and will help them to face future challenges in life in addition to their academic abilities. Singer Mega, Negombo has come forward to sponsor this endeavor.

The dirt track comprising of undulated terrain with an extent of over 2 KM ideal for adventure prone cycling and will be a permanent feature at the school. The sport is added to the school sports meet catering participation of riders of different age groups starting from under 13 and Open to both girls and boys.

The events lined up are U-13 Mix, U-6 Boys and Girls, U-19 Boys and Girls, Open men and women, Fun Ride ( Local and foreign Touring riders) and Veterans' over 50. Organizers expect all top clubs like Army, Air Force, Navy, Police to field their MTB teams and will be interesting to see how they will test their skills over many obstacles on the track. "This is a good experience for our lads", quoted Tudor Wijesuriya, Navy cycling coach .

NMBA wish to make an alliance with Pope Paul de Sixth MV to promote and build 'cycling friendly environment', principal of Pope Paul the Sixth MV said inviting all zonal schools in Minuwangoda and Negombo to field their riders for the event.
