111th Kingswood-Dharmaraja Battle of the Kandy Blues: Wijesiriwardene rescues Kingswood with unbeaten 87

Kingswood College finished their innings in a good position, thanks to the tail Enders for their stunning batting revival following a bad start by the front liners. They recovered from 64-8 to be all out for 164 on the opening day of the 111th Battle of the Kandy Blues cricket encounter at the Pallekele International Stadium yesterday. By the close Dharmaraja had replied with 41-2.

The Rajan’s bowling weapons troubled the Kingswood batsmen and by lunch had reduced them to 64-8. The bowlers who did the damage were Nivantha Herath, Navindu Dilshan and Gehan Vitharane who bowled spectacular spells. With the scoreboard reading 92 for 9 wickets the last pair Ranga Ratnayake and Vimukthi Wijesiriwardene stitched together an excellent stand of 72 runs for the last wicket that took Kingwood to a respectable total of 167 by tea.

Vimukthi who has taken over 65 wickets this season displayed his prowess with the bat making some superb hits around the wicket that fetched him nine fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 87. Ratnayake who offered him excellent support made only three in the partnership. Herath who took four wickets was forced to leave the field with cramps.
