Zahira College, Colombo, emerged champions at the Zahira vs Wesley Debate Championship which was held on March 15 at the Abdul Ghafoor Hall, Zahira College. Both teams displayed excellent potential in debating as they tried to convince the house by justifying their arguments on the topic “Dictatorship is more efficient than democracy" with Zahira opposing the topic.
The speakers of the Champion team were Shuaib Nazar, Shalaby Isa, Hassaan Shazuli and Adhil Amhar. The Wesleyite team was lead by Ismail Nyzar and the Zahirians by Shuaib Nazar. To strengthen the ties between both these prestigious institutions this debate championship will be held as an annual event. The competition was judged by Attorney at law Danien Rodrigo (LLB) and Toastmaster Hafeez Saleem.
Hassaan Shazuli won an award for the Public Choice Debater and the champion team was trained by Rumaiza Lye, a member of the tutorial staff of Zahira College.
