Errant three-wheel drivers, private motor car and coach owners are going on a rampage on the Kandy-Kurunegala road in the Kurunegala Police are during nights.
In a raid conducted by the Kurunegala Traffic Police, 10 drivers were arrested, and breathalyzer tests were carried out and produced before the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Nalin Hewawasam, yesterday.
Each of the drivers pleaded guilty. Six three-wheel and motor car drivers who pleaded guilty for driving under the influence of liquor were fined Rs. 7,000 each and their driving licences were suspended for two months. Two three-wheel drivers caught driving without a valid driving licence while under the influence of liquor were fined Rs. 7,000 each and were imposed a 3 months suspended sentence for five years.
Kurunegala Traffic Police prosecuted.
A trader found guilty of selling dhal unsuitable for human consumption was fined Rs. 5,000 by the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Nalin Hewawasam.
