Ex-PS councillor nabbed with counterfeit currency notes

An ex-Councillor of the Panadura Pradesiya Sabha who is also a Trade Union Representative was indicted by the Attorney General for possessing four counterfeit currency notes of Rs. 1,000 denomination.

The raid was carried out on July 25, 2007 at his home in Horetuduwa, Panadura.

Kumari Nawaratne, a female Inspector of Police of the Counterfeit Currency Notes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Dept testifying before Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Padmini Ranawake Gunatilleke on May 2 said she and Panadura Walana Central Vice Squad Police officials raided the suspect’s house and seized two counterfeit currency notes in Rs. 1,000 denominations from his car and another two Rs. 1,000 notes from his house.

The suspect’s National Identity Card and other cards were also seized.

State Counsel K V Indika appeared for the prosecution.
