Aussie - Lanka ties to strengthen

President Maithripala Sirisena who arrived in Australia on a state visit will have official talks with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at the Parliamentary complex in Canberra tomorrow (May 25).

This will be followed by a special discussion between the diplomatic representatives of the two countries.

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Australia Somasundaram Skandakumar said President Maithripala Sirisena’s state visit which gained special attention among leaders of South Asian countries has attained more significance because it coincides with the 70th anniversary of mutual relations between Sri Lanka and Australia. Relations between the two countries began on June 29, 1947 on the initiative of ambassador William Charles.

Sri Lankan residents in Australia have rendered a major contribution towards strengthening these relations over the years.
