Sri Lankan Airlines regains TTSC badminton glory

Sri Lankan Airlines who took a back seat for the past 02 years, came back strongly to bag both titles at the 22nd Travel Trade Sports Club Badminton Championships 2017, sponsored by Serendib Leisure Management Ltd. for the 07th successive year, concluded at the St. Thomas’ College Indoor Sports Complex, Mt. Lavinia recently.

Sri Lankan regained the Open Team Championship, dethroning Walkers Whittalls ‘A’ team, while retained the Veterans Team Championship in a repeat final of last year, beating Walkers Whittalls.

17 teams participated in the ‘Open’ division while 08 teams participated in the Veterans (Men O-40/ Women O – 35).

Open Team Champoionship – Sri Lankan airlines beat Walkers / Whittalls ‘A’ 3/0.

Men’s single: Dhasitha Dahanayake (Sri Lankan) beat Joel Ratnayake (Walkers / Whittalls) 21/8, 21/13.

Men’s Doubles: Mahesh Jayasinghe & Nirosh Silva (Sri Lankan) beat Prabath Harshakumar & Joel Ratnayake (Walkers / Whittalls) 21/9, 21/8.

Women’s single: Ruwani Lakshika (Sri Lankan) beat Kaveesha Narangoda, 21/19, 14/21,21/19.

Most Outstanding Players - Nirosh Silva and Ruwani Lakshika (both Sri Lankan)

Veterans Team Championship (Men O-40/ Women O-35) – Sri Lankan Airlines beat Walkers /Whittalls, 2/0.

Men’s single - Sujith Wijetunga (Sri Lankan) beat Prabath Harshakumar 21/18, 19/21, 21/12.

Men’s double - Sujith Wijetunga & Anuraji de Silva W/O from Keerthi Ekanayake & Surain Gunatillake (Walkers/Whittall)

Most Outstanding Players: Sujith Wijetunga and Madhuka Liyanage (both from Sri Lankan)
