The Sisu Dina (Students’ Day) national ceremony, the fourth day of the Jathika Ahara Nishpadana Sangrama Sathiya (National Food Production War Week) of the government will be held at the Siyane National School, Dompe under the patronage of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
Agriculture and Environment Education Director of the Education Ministry Damayanthi Balasooriya said a model farm will be set up in leading schools in the country.
She said that the program is designed to initiate with the participation of the parents and the children so that much fund does not require for the implementation.
She also said that although it’s a school holiday, all schools are instructed to engage in this programme.
Balasooriya also said that during this programme, the use of inorganic fertilizer and pesticide will be encouraged.She said brochures, compact discs and many other material will be provided to the students during the ceremony to make them aware of the significance of organic agriculture. Students will be educated on good food habits that do not destroy the nutritious value of food.
She also said that she hoped funds will be allocated by President’s Secretariat for the schools under the Thirasara School Development Programme to continue with the projects initiated under the Jathika Ahara Nishpadana Sangrama Sathiya.
