Farmer killed by wild elephant attack

A 41 year old father of one child who is the Chairman of the Farmers’ Organization, Katupathwewa has been killed due to an attack by a wild elephant. The dead person has been identified as Chaminda Kumarasinghe of Pahala Maragahawewa area.

The dead person had gone to see his paddy field on his motorcycle at night on that fateful day. His family members had informed the Nochchiyagama Police over his disappearance and later, his dead body was found lying in a thicket after being attacked by a wild elephant. Mr. S. M. Nimal Semasinghe, Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Nochchiyagama conducted the inquest.

Mr. W. E. Jayathilake, Kurunegala District Divisional Secretary told Daily News today (09), that about 12 persons have been killed by wild jumbos during the past ten months from Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North Western Province.
