He played school rugby as a third row forward for Trinity College, Kandy, in the inter-schools rugby championship and also had the distinction of representing Sri Lanka national under-19 team in the Junior rugby Asiad. Then he went on to captain his club team, Kandy Sports Club, to an unbeaten league and Clifford cup knockout championship. He captained Sri Lanka national fifteen a side rugby team in the Rugby Asiad with flying colors. Then he took into coaching and coached his school Trinity College first fifteen rugby team. Later he took over his club, Kandy sports club, as their first fifteen head coach and brought them back to back interclub league championship as well as the interclub Clifford cup knockout championship in 2016 and 2017.
