A father of three children who had run away with his paramour’s 15-year-old daughter and lived with her as husband and wife for four months, had later, allegedly slain the girl on February 15, 2005 while living in a shanty within the Chilaw High Court judiciary zone.
The accused R. P. Nishantha Premaratne (42) of Rajanganaya, was a toddy tapper by profession. High Court Judge of Chilaw Ravindra Amal Ranaraja, sentenced the accused with capital punishment on the 10th of this month when the case was taken for hearing. Marawila Police had detected the dead body of the girl and the body had been kept at the Marawila Base Hospital. A Police source in Kurunegala told the Daily News yesterday(12), that 48 child abuses and harassments had been reported to the Kurunegala District Police Stations during the past eight months.
